WR Roy Williams of Chicago Bears is Still Not in Good Shape for the Preseason Games

Bears wide receiver Roy Williams was inserted into the starting lineup, replacing Johnny Knox for a variety of reasons, but Williams admits he is not in shape at this point, and that has been increasingly apparent watching the veteran go through practice at sometimes less than peak speed. Williams wore Roy Williams Bears Jersey and acknowledged that the biggest thing for him to work on at this point is “my conditioning. Getting my wind right. You have to be able to run in this offense. Run all day long.” The problem with this is that he is working with a new quarterback and Jay Cutler does not have the familiarity and comfort level with Williams that he had with Knox, even with Knox’s occasional strayings from the plan. As far as being in game-ready shape: “Ooh, yeah…About that. How many more weeks have we got?” he wore Chicago Bears Jerseys and joked. Told that there were still a couple of weeks, he wore Roy Williams Jersey and smiled: “Yeah, I will be ready by then.” That would be a good thing, but not necessarily a given.“I am a firm believer in no matter what you do in the offseason, nothing will get you football ready except for playing football,” Williams wore Custom Bears Jerseys and said. “That is what I believe. It is tough. You can run all the hills and mountains that you want to, but when you get out here and play for four seconds and jog back to the huddle, that is what gets you in shape.” His quarterback knows Williams is not where he needs to be physically, something that has not been said about Knox, Earl Bennett, Devin Hester, Sam Hurd, Dan Sanzenbacher or any of the other wideouts.“Roy’s definitely getting back into shape, taking more plays every day,” Cutler wore Chicago Bears Jerseys and said. “You can see more glimpses of Roy Williams each and every day on film. So hopefully by Monday, he will be ready to go.”
